CIRCA Holds Challenge Night
Challenge night was the most awaited activity in the application period for both the applicants and the CIRCANS alike. And what a night it was. There were 36 applicants who attended the activity, and as much as I would like to divulge the information of what applicants did, I can’t! Sorry. It is a CIRCA top secret. What I would like to tell you, though is that the challenge night was a huge success. Hidden talents in singing, dancing, acting, and impersonating were bared by the bold ones. The applicants and members were bonded more than ever in this not just challenging, but also a memorable night.
To the members, thank you for making the challenge night fun and unforgettable. To the then applicants, who are now official members, CONGRATULATIONS for having the guts to go through that night! You all delivered splendid performances, special mention goes to these people who bagged the following awards:
Show Stealer: Spike
Piamonte
Kapal
Gooms: Leo
Singson
Best in Props & Costume:
Loreto Aguilar & Alotte Salandanan
Best Challenge: Mark Asuncion

DEAD POTS SOCIETY
To be or not to be induced (read:inducted)?... that was the question that lingered in our minds because of the ever-postponed induction night for 1st sem AY 2000-2001 CIRCA applicants.
Sem-ender projects, finals, and what-have-you’s prevented the induction from pushing through October of this year. The absence of a suitable place (read:party place with pool) ever aggravated the situation. So the sem ended with us, new but not yet official members, losing the momentum of becoming full-pledged CIRCANS and going away to vacation with the question "what’s a pool gotta?" packing our brains off.
Altius, fortius, citius...
As athletes around the world compete for the much coveted gold in the Olympics, UP CIRCA conducted its own mini olympics through the CIRCUP 2000, a 9-ball billiards tournament.
The event which was conducted last September 27, 2000 at ARDZ Cafe Katipunan, created a cheer from spectators as Brian Li and Robbie Vasquez battled for the final showdown. It was the former who eventually won the tournament. |
Come first Saturday of 2nd sem, though, our prayers were answered. The induction night was held 18th of Nov. at # 15 Winston St., East Fairview. For us Southern belles, (Allote and me!) it was supposed to be a great night turned out to be our worst driving nightmare. Burger King made us hit the CRV of a Mr. Basil Wuson, traffic was at its ultimate, East Fairview turned out to be at the other end of the world and what better time to have a flat but minutes before Batchhead’s striptease number?
Taking unlucky incidents aside, the induction was what we hoped it would be. The food was great, the water was fine, the ooze was perfect, and we had fun. Dancing was reduced to minimum, though, because the sound system didn’t come through as per performance level. Though some members were non-existent that night and few new members didn’t make it, CIRCA spirit was alive and well!!!
I, however, was not. Slumber got the best of me and the rest of the night!

GETTING ORIENTED... THE CIRCA WAY
by: Janielle Ann Vallestero
Last December 07, CIRCA held an orientation for the applicants for this semester (2nd sem AY 2k-2k1). The programme started at 1:30 pm which was graced by not less than 15 applicants (there were also some interested applicants who were not able to come due to confict of schedule) and over 35 members of the organization.
The programme started with the invocation led by a representative from the new batch of members (1st sem AY 2k-2k1), Mr. Leo Singson. Then the academic division chief, Neil Maranan gave an overview of the history, founding members, objectives, and the structure of the organization. The applicants introduced themselves, not only to the members but to their co-applicants, they were asked to tell something about themselves and why they decided to join CIRCA. This was followed by the introduction of the members to the applicants. Then, CIRCA’s High Commissioner Patrick Erestain delivered his welcome remarks for the applicants. Ms. Charm Pama and Ms. Justine Guerrero, the personnel and publicity division heads, respectively, discussed the application process and the upcoming activities of the organization for this semester. This was followed by a song number from Deputy Commissioner for Externals, Diane Roldan and a new addition to the CIRCA family, Ms. Alotte Salandanan. After which, the applicants were given the opportunity to ask questions or to raise any point of clarification. Snacks were also served. The orientation program ended at 2:30 pm, but surely, it is not an end in itself...perhaps, it’s just the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of the aspiring CIRCA applicants. For this batch of apps: CONGRATULATIONS FOR DECIDING TO JOIN CIRCA, GOOD LUCK, AND HOPE TO SEE YOU IN THE CIRCLE! LIVE IT UP!
